Description
Zesture
Zesture is an interesting app that's changing the way we interact with our devices. Instead of using a mouse or trackpad, you can control your laptop just by waving your hands! Sounds cool, right? With most laptops having webcams today, why not go fully contactless?
What is Zesture?
The idea behind Zesture is pretty neat. It’s primarily designed for multimedia and presentation apps. While it's still undergoing some tweaks, it's definitely one of the coolest tools I've come across lately.
Supported Apps
Zesture works with many popular desktop applications like VLC, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, PowerPoint, and Keynote. Plus, if you add the Chrome extension to your browser, you can control YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer right from any Chromium-based browser!
Gesture Controls
Depending on what you're doing in these apps, Zesture lets you pause or start playback, skip to the next song or video, zoom in or out during presentations, seek forward or backward in media playback, and adjust the volume—like muting or unmuting audio.
Installation Tips
Just a heads up though—the setup process has a few steps! You'll need to give Zesture some permissions and go through a first-time tutorial. Don’t forget to grab the Chrome extension if you want multimedia controls while browsing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with Firefox or Safari.
Using Zesture
Once you're all set up and running Zesture from your main window or menu bar, just pick which app you want to control. Keep in mind that you can only manage one at a time since they share gestures.
User Experience
I have to say using Zesture is really fun! It makes controlling media feel like you're Tony Stark playing with high-tech gadgets. The gestures are easy enough to learn but tricky to master—I struggled a bit with the volume down gesture at first but got better with practice.
A Few Drawbacks
The app generally works well; however, some gestures can be tricky. For instance, it sometimes pauses playback when I raise my palm while walking across the room. It picks up movements from quite a distance! You might accidentally trigger it if your hands are in front of the camera for any reason.
The Future of Zesture
Zesture definitely needs more fine-tuning and support for additional apps and browsers—but it's heading in the right direction! If you're tired of subscription services that keep charging you every month for access—good news! You can get a permanent license with just one purchase.
