Zerotools project contains a set of tools to aid in keeping virtual disks clean by filling binary zeros in regions that are no longer in use. The tools can perform this task on-the-fly or manually, depending on the user's needs.
Zerotools are specifically designed for Linux systems and have been tested on various distributions running kernels 2.4 and 2.6. Different glibc versions have also been evaluated to ensure compatibility.
Zerotools may not be able to handle files over 2 GiB size on 32-bit architectures. The tools do not work with statically linked executables and do not take into account sparse files while checking for zeroing.
User participation in testing the tools on older Linux systems or different architectures is appreciated. Feedback and bug reports help in improving the tool for better performance and reliability.
