YouTube Widget is a super handy tool that helps you search for videos on YouTube without the hassle of opening your browser. Even though Yahoo! stopped supporting widgets back in April 2012, there are still plenty of useful widgets out there, like this one!
To get started with the YouTube Widget, you'll need the Yahoo! Widget Engine. This is a JavaScript runtime that lets you install widgets on your Windows computer. Once you've got it, you can easily explore videos right from your desktop using the YouTube data API.
After installation, the widget pops up a simple window with a search form and playback screen. To find what you want to watch, just type in your keyword, adjust any sorting options if needed, and hit 'Submit'. It's that easy!
Your search results show up clearly, making it super easy to pick what you want to watch. You can sort videos by relevance, when they were last updated, how many views they have, or their ratings.
If you click on any video result, it'll play in the built-in player right away! This means no more switching back and forth between tabs—just good old-fashioned video watching! Just remember that you'll need an internet connection for it to work.
The Yahoo! Widget Engine works with recent versions of Windows. We did notice some issues while testing on Windows 8, but everything ran smoothly on Windows 7.
The YouTube Widget gives you a cool alternative for watching videos online. Just place it anywhere on your desktop and start searching for online videos whenever you feel like it!
