What is XYFT?

XYFT is a cool genealogy app that helps you create your very own family tree! It's built on the XY Family Tree but does things a little differently. Instead of using CSV files for storage, XYFT uses XML files. This means you can edit your data more easily and even import it into other apps.

Getting Started with XYFT

Diving into XYFT isn’t too tricky, though the layout could be a bit better. It’s designed to fit wide screens, but you can't resize the main window (you can maximize it, though!). If your monitor's smaller, you'll need to use scroll bars to see everything. Plus, the color scheme and panel placements might not make for the best user experience, but there are some customization options for colors if you're looking to switch things up.

Create Your Family Tree Easily

The good news is that making a new family tree from scratch in XYFT is pretty straightforward! You start by picking a person and then add their parents, siblings, spouses, kids, and more. Oh! And it’s important to note that XYFT can handle adoption lineage too—not just biological ties.

Add Notes and Stay Organized

You can also attach notes and to-do lists to your genealogy projects in XYFT. This feature helps keep you focused and ensures you don't forget about those distant relatives that should be part of your family tree. Plus, if someone is missing parents or if someone ends up being their own ancestor (yikes!), XYFT will help you spot those mistakes!
