Have you heard about XMMS? It’s a super popular music player that’s like Winamp but made for Linux and UNIX-like systems. Well, let me introduce you to XMMS2, which is the next step in the XMMS journey!
XMMS2 kicked off back in late 2002, thanks to one of the original creators, Peter Alm. The goal was simple: create a 'kick-ass music player' that stands out among all the other music player projects out there.
Now, just to be clear, XMMS2 is an audio player and not a multimedia player. So if you're hoping to watch videos with it, you’re out of luck! This software is built mainly for audio processing and has a cool modular framework along with plugin architecture for all your sound needs.
The way XMMS2 is designed means it doesn’t support video playback at all. Its client-server structure really focuses on audio output and doesn’t integrate any graphics directly into the system.
If you're ready to get started with downloading XMMS2, follow these steps:
port install sqlite3
."./waf configure && ./waf && sudo ./waf install"
