Getting Started with WMIGen

Before you dive in and start using WMIGen, there’s one important thing to keep in mind: you need to run it with an admin account. If you don't, you might hit some bumps along the way!

Selecting Your WMI Class

The first step is picking out the WMI class you want to work with. Once you've done that, you'll see all the juicy details in the 'Properties' and 'Methods' sections. Want more info about something? Just click on what you need and hit the ‘MSDN Help’ button! This will open your default browser and show you all the relevant MSDN info.

Generating Your Code

The next part is where the magic happens! In the Code window, you can check out all the scripts generated for your selected code. You can easily pick which scripting language you're into. Just press ‘Generate Code’ if you want to create code that shows all properties of your chosen class and their values. Or if you're feeling adventurous, hit ‘Run WMI Code’ to see if those scripts are working just right!

Saving Your Work

Once you're happy with your script, saving it is a breeze! You can either save it as a new file or copy it straight to your clipboard so you can paste it into your favorite scripting editor later.

Tweaking Settings

If you'd like to customize things a bit more, check out the Settings window. Here you can set defaults like namespace and choose whether to list only Win32 classes or generate resource-friendly scripts. Plus, there's an option for setting your preferred window size!
