Description
In this day and age, weather apps on computers/desktops seem to be a bit obsolete, as it's obviously a lot easier to check out the forecast on our mobile devices (such as smartphones and smartwatches).
Still, having a reliable weather app on your computer's desktop can have a lot of advantages.
As its name clearly states, Weather (also known as KWeather) is all about providing an accurate weather forecast. More to the point, it provides daily and hourly weather data including weather conditions, temperature, humidity, precipitation, pressure, UV index, the current moon phase, and the precise sunset and sunrise time.
What's interesting about Weather is that it's a "convergent" KDE app, meaning that it works perfectly both on KDE Plasma and KDE Plasma Mobile. This is possible thanks to the Kirigami UI Framework.
Visually, the app is quite modern-looking and it's mostly thanks to something called a dynamic view.
This animated view makes the app feel more modern and adds a level of animation to the desktop that's really satisfying (at least in my opinion). There's also a flat view (which disables all the animations) if you like simpler designs.
Even though the app looks really good on a typical KDE Plasma desktop, I think it's mostly aimed at mobile users. Why do I say this? Well, it's because the overall system integration is not spectacular. The app doesn't integrate with KDE's tray or other menus, which makes it a bit awkward to summon each time you want to check out the forecast.
Other than that, there's really not much to say or reproach. It's a simple app that does exactly what it says on the tin.
