VSColorOutput is a free extension designed for Visual Studio 2010 or 2011 to enhance the Build and Debug Output windows with color highlighting, making it easier for users to identify different components in their code.
Developers can easily track various elements in their code with different color codes assigned to each event. Error messages stand out with a red highlight, warnings are presented in yellow, and build headers are in green.
Advanced users have the flexibility to customize VSColorOutput according to their specific requirements. They can add custom match patterns, modify default color values, and fine-tune the extension to cater to their individual needs.
VSColorOutput integrates with Visual Studio's classifier chain, monitoring each line sent to the output window. It checks a list of regular expressions and classifications to define the color coding based on the first matching expression. If no match is found, the line is classified as BuildText.
By automatically stopping the build after the first error occurs, VSColorOutput helps developers save valuable time. Additionally, for command line builds, the extension displays the elapsed build time, providing a more efficient alternative to building directly from Visual Studio.
