Description

Universal Play List Editor

Universal Play List Editor is a handy program designed for Windows 95. It can read, save, and edit almost any playlist you have, no matter who created it or who’s using it. The magic happens thanks to its Format File Manager that lets you create templates for different file types.

Create Templates Easily

Once you set up a format for a specific type, the Play List Editor can easily handle files in that format. You can create your own Format Files or grab them from here when they become available. If you're curious about how this program reads files using templates, check out the Programming Issues page!

User-Friendly Interface

The main goals are to create the best interface and let users design their own playlists. To start making a playlist, just choose the folder with your files on the left side of the screen. If you want to switch folders, click on that little folder button (it’s the fifth one down). This opens a window where you can pick your folder.

Add Files to Your Playlist

To filter which files show up, type the extension in the box at the top left. For example, if you only want MIDI files to show up, erase “.*” and put “.mid” or “mid” instead (don’t use quotes!). Once your files appear, it’s time to add what you want to your playlist!

Manage Your Playlist Items

If there are already items in your playlist on the right side and you want to remove some, just select them (you can select multiple ones!) and hit delete or click on that delete button (the third one down). After that, drag your chosen files from the left list over to the right list. Feel free to drag multiple selections at once!

Reorder Your Playlist

You can rearrange items in your playlist by selecting a file on the right and using those up and down arrows to move it around. To change how things look in that list, right-click and pick a display mode from there.

The Format File Manager

You can access this by clicking on the settings button at the bottom (underneath that folder button). When you do this, two windows pop up: one for managing formats and another for code definitions. If you've got formats installed already, they'll show up on the left! Click any of them to edit; if not, just click 'New Format' to make one.

Create New Formats with Ease

The first box is where you name your format when creating something new; next is where you'll put its extension—the part after a file name like .txt or .mp3! Below these are three boxes: header box, body box, and footer box.

Your Header & Footer Boxes Explained

In these boxes, type whatever comes before or after your actual list of files—like total number of files (%N) or displayed folder (%D) codes! Remember though—your body box must have something in it!
