UnderCover

Description:

UnderCover might come out as a vague and confusing application at first glance, but there is a purpose to it. Hiding the contents of a window in order to help with executing tests or protect one's screen from curious passers-by seems to be what this program is all about. It's supposed to hide buttons only.

The developer mentions that this tool was made to help you hide buttons within any active window. However, that's not exactly what it does in practice. UnderCover hides the entire contents of a window, at least, on the latest version of Windows OS — Windows 10 and Windows 11. Maybe the button aspect was true for older Windows iterations, but that cannot be confirmed during our tests.

The first thing that comes to mind is showing young ones their way around the OS or testing their knowledge of it. Hiding the contents might be of use when trying to remove distracting elements during a learning session.

Another reason would be for keeping whatever goes on your screen private without closing the window. It's true; you can minimize a program to the taskbar and keep it off your screen, but perhaps you don't have that muscle memory and wish for a quicker reaction.

To hide the contents of windows, you can use the CTRL + Right-Click combination. If this hotkey is not to your liking, open the app's directory, access the INI file, and type down a new shortcut.

While hidden, the window won't be removed from the screen, but it will give the impression that everything inside was removed, leaving you with an empty background. Use the combination again to undo the action.
