UCARP allows a couple of hosts to share common virtual IP addresses in order to provide automatic failover. UCARP project is a portable userland implementation of the secure and patent-free Common Address Redundancy Protocol (CARP, OpenBSD's alternative to the atents-bloated VRRP).

Installation Steps:



  1. Open a terminal window and navigate to the directory containing the source code.

  2. Run the command './configure' to configure the package.

  3. Compile the package using the 'make' command.

  4. Install the programs and documentation using 'make install'.

  5. Clean up the source directory with 'make clean' or 'make distclean'.



Requirements:



  • A shared virtual IP, real IP address for each host

  • A shared identifier for the virtual IP address (1-255)

  • Advertisement time base and skew for each host

  • Shared password for security

  • Scripts for managing virtual address during failover
