There's a lot that can be said about Ubuntu, both good and bad. While not perfect (for everybody), one of the coolest things about the whole Ubuntu universe is the fact that you can choose between multiple very interesting and unique official flavors.

Ubuntu Cinnamon is one of those cool official flavors (thanks to its applets, desklets, extensions, and themes), and it's now available for download as an LTS version.

Based on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) is here to stay for three years, and it brings a wide assortment of changes and improvements.

Apart from the underlying changes, bug fixes, and improvements it borrows from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, this version of Ubuntu Cinnamon comes with the reliable Linux Kernel 6.8, and the Cinnamon Desktop 6.0.4.

The main changes regarding the Cinnamon Desktop are as follows: the sound applet features a revised GUI with round labels (for the artist song names), a resizable menu editor, various minor fixes, and experimental support for Wayland (good news for the project's future).

Another nice change is the fact that users can now download Nemo Actions with other spices, and that Desktop Backgrounds now support the AVIF file format. Since we're on the subject, Nemo has also received a lot of fixes this release (some cosmetic, and some more technical, mainly fixing certain memory leaks).

The OS' screensavers have also received some attention, mainly in the form of stability fixes. It's also worth noting that the screensaver is disabled by default in Wayland sessions.

Muffin, the official window manager also features support for Wayland. Last but not least, Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04 LTS features Ubuntu's installer, the all-new Flutter-based installer.

This latest LTS release of Ubuntu Cinnamon might not be the most exciting, but considering that the team is striving to offer Wayland support and is not afraid to implement most of the changes from the Ubuntu mainline are clear signs that the future is looking rather bright.
