What is Typefacer?

Typefacer

Typefacer is a pretty cool app for playing around with fonts. Sure, it might not be super important when you're sharing your life goals on Facebook, but fonts have a long history and can really jazz up your designs. If you want to test out different fonts, Typefacer is a solid choice!

Cool Interface

Right from the start, Typefacer shows it means business with its fresh and sleek interface. It fits in nicely with whatever you're working on. You'll find a handy side panel that helps you navigate through all the fonts installed on your computer. The main area gives you a character map and sample sheet so you can see how everything looks.

Easy Font Selection

Selecting a font is super simple! Once you've picked one, all its characters are at your fingertips. Plus, there's a big canvas where you can see capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols in action. You can even start typing directly on the canvas and then copy that text over to another app. Just remember to avoid pasting plain text if you want to keep the specific font style!

Limitations of Typefacer

However, it's worth noting that while the interface is nice, it feels like more focus went into that than other features. Besides viewing your fonts, there isn't much else to do—like placing characters from the map into a simple text field that goes to your clipboard.

Font Size Adjustments

You can adjust the font size using a slider that ranges from 2 to 72 points. This lets you see changes in real-time! But there's some inconsistency between what's shown in the list of fonts and what appears on the writing canvas. For example, dragging characters from the map isn't possible, and when using symbol-based fonts with the keyboard, it only types in the default font.

Your Takeaway

All things considered, Typefacer is an app that looks good but lacks depth in features. It grabs your attention with its visuals but doesn't offer enough functionality under the hood. Not every font shows up as designed; there's no way to see how many fonts you've got installed or search for specific ones.
