Description

tnftp

tnftp (formerly known as lukemftp) is a free and open-source command-line tool. It’s built in C and made to give users a version of the NetBSD FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client for other UNIX-like systems, especially GNU/Linux.

Why Choose tnftp?

This program comes packed with cool features that make it stand out from the usual BSD FTP client. With tnftp, you can fetch files using both HTTP and FTP URLs right from the command line. It also lets you edit commands easily, upload files via FTP URLs, and even has context-sensitive word completion. Pretty neat, right?

Where is tnftp Used?

Tnftp is super popular! Many operating systems like SUSE Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and Mac OS X have adopted it as their go-to FTP client. Plus, it works great on any Linux kernel-based system, whether you’re using 64-bit or 32-bit architecture.

How to Install tnftp

  1. First off, download the latest version of tnftp from Softpas or its official site (link below).

  2. Save the downloaded archive on your computer.

  3. Extract the files and open up a terminal window.

Compiling and Installing

In your terminal emulator, use the ‘cd’ command to go to where you extracted those files. Then run this command: ‘./configure && make’. This will configure everything and compile the source code for you.

The Final Step

If all goes well with compiling, you can install tnftp by typing ‘sudo make install’ if you're an admin user or just ‘make install’ as root in your terminal.

Getting Help with tnftp

If you ever need help after installing tnftp, just run ‘tnftp --help’ in your terminal. This will show all the options available at a glance! You can set things like retry options, add login info for FTP or HTTP connections, specify output files, change ports, quit times, source addresses — basically tweak it just how you like!
