ThumbnailCity

Description

Video files thumbnails can be misleading, especially if you’re an avid movie collector or you’re just browsing your family recordings. Nevertheless, one way of making sure that you always remember a particular video is to set a certain reference thumbnail. ThumbnailCity will allow users to select a certain frame as the thumbnail for their video files, this way having all video content displayed accordingly in their Windows directories.

Right after the swift installation process, users will then be able to use the app by simply browsing to their video files directory and right-clicking on the preferred file. The option to assign thumbnails will appear in the context menu.

This is both good and bad. Good since it offers a hassle-free configuration process, bad since it might leave users wondering where to look for in order to start using the app, as there is no confirmation or hint at the end of the setup.

Having navigated to a directory that contains video files, users can then select one and using the context menu, assign a certain frame as a thumbnail. Using the context-menu option, users can open a control window that features on-screen playback commands.

Navigating through the different frames is an easy task and a particular frame from the video file can be selected and saved as a thumbnail, the app assigning it automatically. As efficient as this whole process might be, it would have been nice to see some batch processing features, especially useful when working with multiple, similar videos.

Although basic and minimalist, ThumbnailCity provides a decent job at extracting thumbnails from video files and automatically setting them as default for display in the Windows directories.
