What is Text Comparator?

Text Comparator

Text Comparator is a handy tool that helps you spot differences in text. It shows two panes side by side for each text source and automatically checks for matches. Plus, it's a lightweight software utility for Windows, which means you don't even need to install it!

Simple Interface

The interface is super straightforward. You just paste the text from two sources into the two panes, and the comparison happens in real time. If everything matches up perfectly, you'll see "Match" pop up in green. If there are differences, it will say "Un-Match" in red.

Details on Differences

If you click on the "Un-Match" button, a new window opens up with stats about the differences between the texts. This includes where the differences are and even Unicode characters! The tool takes into account all characters when comparing, including spaces (like blank spaces and tabs), Carriage Return (CR), Line Feed (LF), and CRLF. By default, it's case sensitive but you can change that if you want. Just keep in mind that ASCII characters won't show up in those stats.

Highlighting Matches

When you look at both texts in the main window again, you'll notice parts of the text get highlighted automatically. This makes it easier to see matching strings so you can spot duplicates quickly! But here's a little quirk: highlighting stops as soon as it finds the first difference. So anything that matches after that won't get highlighted.

No Installation Needed!

You can unzip the package and just double-click on the .exe file to open Text Comparator right away! No setup required means it's super easy to carry around on a USB flash drive too; just plug it into any PC and run it directly. Plus, since it doesn’t need an internet connection, feel free to use it offline while working on your text-based projects.

Compatibility

We tested Text Comparator with Windows 10 and didn't have any compatibility issues at all! It's easy to use, quick to operate, compact in size, and best of all—there's no setup hassle. However, while it's simple and effective, we hope future updates bring more features and customization options.
