swiftGPT is making waves as one of the coolest ways to use ChatGPT right from your desktop. Unlike many other apps that are built using web code, swiftGPT runs on native code. This means it’s super efficient and gives you a smooth experience without hogging your system's resources.

What Makes swiftGPT Special?

The app lets you chat with ChatGPT using your OpenAI API key, which is pretty neat! You can save your conversations and even keep an eye on how much it costs to use the service. It’s all about keeping things simple and easy to navigate.

User-Friendly Design

When you open swiftGPT, you'll see a clean interface that looks like any other native Mac app. The main screen shows your chat window, and there’s a side panel for extra features. You can hide this panel if you want to focus more on chatting, but there's a little hiccup—the button to hide it isn't working at the moment. However, you can just drag the border of the panel to close it!

Navigating Your Chats

SwiftGPT makes navigating between different chats super easy. You can start new chats or pick up where you left off with existing ones without any fuss. Typing in new queries feels familiar, so there’s no learning curve here!

Cost Tracking Feature

You’ll need to enter your OpenAI API key when you first set it up. While you're in the Settings window, feel free to turn on or off the cost calculator feature. This handy tool will track how much each conversation costs as you go along.

Your Conversations Are Safe

All of your chats are saved automatically so you can revisit them anytime unless you decide to delete them or start fresh. Just keep in mind that only conversations started in swiftGPT count towards the cost tracking; chats from other clients or web services won’t be included.

Still Growing!

Keep in mind that swiftGPT is still being developed and doesn't have every feature yet—like code highlighting, for example. There are also some bugs they’re ironing out, like that pesky sidebar button issue. But if you're not into Electron-based clients or prefer something more straightforward for macOS, swiftGPT looks like a fantastic option!
