Swift Quit is a handy tool for macOS users. It tackles one of the quirky features of macOS that can trip you up, especially if you're switching from Windows. When you close the last window of an app on macOS, the app doesn’t actually quit. Instead, it keeps running in the background without any active windows open.
With Swift Quit, closing an app’s last window automatically quits the app completely. This behavior is more like what you'd expect from Windows and can make it easier for new macOS users to adjust.
It's super simple! When you close an application’s last window, it shuts down just like hitting Cmd+Q. It doesn’t matter if you clicked the red button or used Cmd+W; either way, the app will close.
If you want even more control, Swift Quit allows you to configure it so that closing any window of an app will quit it. While this might be useful in some cases, be careful! You might end up closing apps unintentionally.
You’ll probably need to set some exceptions to avoid annoying situations. For example, if an app shows a pop-up but has no other windows open, closing that pop-up would also close the app entirely. Thankfully, adding exceptions is straightforward!
Keep in mind that not all apps have visible windows. In those cases, Swift Quit won’t work its magic automatically. But don’t worry; you can manually close these windowless apps right from your menu bar and access settings easily.
If you've been using Mac for a while, you're probably used to how things work here. But if you're coming from Windows and wish your apps would stop running when there are no active windows left open, then Swift Quit could really help make your transition to macOS smoother!
