Substitution Cipher is a tool that helps you keep your documents safe from prying eyes. Unlike other fancy tools that rely on complex passwords, this app uses a straightforward method called mono-alphabetic substitution to encrypt and decrypt your text.
The design of the software is pretty basic. You'll see a minimalist window split into two parts: one for encryption and another for decryption. It's simple, but it gets the job done!
Now, here's where it gets a bit tricky. You can't just drag and drop files into the program; instead, you need to click the browse button to find your file. Also, this app only works with plain text files, which is a bit of a letdown.
If you want to use it, you can type your message directly into dedicated boxes. Before you encrypt or decrypt anything, you'll need to set up a cypher alphabet. That means assigning a substitute letter for each of the 26 letters in the alphabet—no spaces or special characters allowed!
Once you're done encrypting or decrypting, you can print out your results or save them as plain text files. We found that Substitution Cipher doesn’t hog system resources while doing its job, which is great if you're multitasking.
If you're looking for an easy way to encrypt and decrypt documents without hassle, Substitution Cipher is worth checking out. It may not have all the bells and whistles like support for DOC or RTF files or drag-and-drop features, but it keeps things simple!
