Description

Understanding how much stress various sections of tectonic plates are under helps geologists figure out when seismic events are likely, and potentially even their magnitude. Predictions are very difficult, but advanced software can help make them more accurate.

SSPX is a specialized application that uses data from numerous research stations to calculate strain tensors in two or three dimensions. Although mainly designed for use by geologists, it can prove useful in any situation when strain/strain rates need to be calculated from displacement or velocity data.

Data can be loaded from GPS or discreet element model files. Once imported, the available stations will be plotted in the main window, along with the strain tensors. You can enable or disable various elements, such as the stations, labels, displacement vectors, etc. You can also enable a map view, zoom in our out, and take advantage of several other tools to bring out relevant information.

The second tab shows a list of all available stations and their coordinates. Any can be disabled to prevent them from being taken into account for the plot. Finally, the third tab provides a complete strain report, in plain text, which can be copied and used in your work.
