Getting Started with SmartGenealogy

The first time you open SmartGenealogy, it might seem a bit overwhelming since it has lots of features. Don't worry! Just take some time to explore the built-in settings to see how everything works. If you get stuck, there’s a handy help manual that can guide you through the configuration settings.

Add Family Members Easily

This app makes adding new people to your family tree super simple. You just need to provide details like surname, first name, social security number, physical description, notes, sources, and more. Plus, you can add multiple date and place details for each person related to their birth, death, burial, or residence.

Tracking Life Events

With SmartGenealogy, it's easy to log different events in your database. You can enter information about marriages and divorces including date, place, source info, cause notes, and even spouse details! The app handles both non-religious events (like adoptions or graduations) as well as religious ceremonies (like baptisms or confirmations).

Add Sources and Locations

You can also add source references by detailing the author name, publication info, repository details, title of the work—whatever you need! Plus, it helps store location data including country and even latitude/longitude coordinates so that you can preview places on a map!

Multimedia & More Features!

This software even lets you include multimedia files in your database! You can add repository references by entering names and addresses too. And if you're curious about family trees with more kids than usual? There’s an option for that! Plus, you get a timeline view for all persons in your database.

Create Multiple Databases

SmartGenealogy allows creating multiple database files wherever you'd like on your computer. You have the freedom to open them up easily—rename or delete files when needed—and import information from GEDCOM files or Excel sheets too!

Export Options Galore!

You’ll love the exporting options available! Save your data in formats like GEDCOM, PDF, HTML, or Excel files. And don’t forget—you can back up your current database anytime.

Error Checking & Calendar Functions

If you're worried about mistakes in your data like duplicate entries or invalid dates? No problem! SmartGenealogy helps spot those errors quickly. There’s also a calendar feature for jumping between months and converting dates from Gregorian to Julian calendars!

Take Notes with Ease

A Notepad-style text editor is included so you can jot down personal notes about individuals or events whenever needed! Plus, you'll see timestamps displayed right on the toolbar for easy reference.
