Description

SLFFEA

SLFFEA stands for San Le's Free Finite Element Analysis. It's a cool package of scientific software that helps you with finite element analysis, and it comes with some user-friendly graphical interfaces too. This program is written in ANSI C by San Le and is available under the GNU license, which means it's free to use!

What Are the Basic Finite Element Types?

SLFFEA includes 9 basic finite element types that you can work with:

  • 3-D 2 node beam

  • 3-D 8 node brick

  • 2-D 4 node plate

  • 2-D 4 node quad (plane stress and plane strain)

  • 3-D 4 node doubly curved shell (defined by 4 or 8 nodes)

  • 3-D 4 node tetrahedron

  • 2-D 3 node triangle

  • 3-D 2 node truss

  • 3-D 6 node wedge

A Look at Non-Linear Large Deformation Elements

The software also includes a non-linear large deformation element:

  • - A special type of *3-D 8 node brick*: This uses an updated Lagrange formulation with Jaumann Stress Rate.

Add Some Thermal Analysis!

If you need to handle thermal loads, SLFFEA has you covered with:

  • - A thermal element: *3-D 8 node brick*: Capable of managing thermal loads as well as orthotropy.

User-Friendly Graphical Interfaces

This software doesn't just stop at elements! It offers 9 graphical user interfaces for each element type.

  • - Example of the brick GUI.

  • - Example of the beam GUI.

The Legacy Behind SLFFEA:

This project is dedicated to Richard Stallman, who started the Free Software Movement, and Linus Torvalds, his talented follower. Plus, a shoutout to everyone on comp.os.linux.setup!
