Description
SkyGazer
SkyGazer is a cool little application for Windows that lets you check out the sky from anywhere on Earth or even from other spots in our solar system. You can explore stars, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Plus, it helps you learn the names of bright stars and watch how planets move over time.
Getting Started with SkyGazer
This software packs a lot of features, so at first glance, it might feel a bit overwhelming if you're new to it. But don’t worry! Take some time to poke around each built-in feature or take a look at the handy help manual to really make the most out of this tool.
User-Friendly Features
You’ll find several floating panels that show info about time and location. This makes it easier to control simulated time and check out your favorite spots in the sky chart window.
Create Your Own Sky Charts
With SkyGazer, you can create as many sky chart windows as you want. This means you can display what the sky looks like at different times and places, letting you see stars, planets, constellations, horizons, and more.
Zoom In On The Stars!
The app lets you zoom in or out on the sky. You can also double-click on any part of the sky to get details about what you're looking at—like its name, type, and even some interesting history or mythology behind it!
Track Celestial Objects
If you want to follow something specific like a planet or comet, SkyGazer has got your back! You can lock onto an object’s motion and set your desired location along with date and time using your mouse or keyboard commands.
The Time Panel Functionality
The time panel shows you how time flows in this simulation. You can drag clock hands to change the displayed time. It also lets you choose between Local Mean Time (LMT) or Universal Time (UTC), keeping everything up-to-date automatically as your computer clock changes.
Customize Your View
You can show or hide various celestial bodies like the sun, moon, planets, asteroids, comets—really everything up there! There are also options for deep-sky objects and natural backgrounds.
Export & Explore!
A fun feature is that you can export images of what you see into formats like PICT, BMP, TIFF, or JPG. You can even print data! Want to see how constellations shifted over time? No problem—this tool simulates Earth cycles for you too!
