If your property is equipped with a surveillance system, you should be capable of identifying any vehicle that goes near your residence, especially if foul play was at hand. Depending on angles, weather conditions, the speed of the vehicle, etc, having a clear view of the license plate is not always guaranteed.
SimpleLPR is a neat program that can identify plate numbers you'd otherwise fail to read with the naked eye. While the app doesn't have a 100% rate of success with indistinguishable images, it still can boost your chances of identifying plates.
The operation is fairly simple. You must load an image that captured a license plate and let the app scan it. The criteria for reading a plate are simple. As long as the plates are horizontally aligned and have a height of at least 20 pixels, there is a 90% chance of success, as per the developer's description.
The license plate characters are displayed under the image, along with the country of origin. Around 90 countries are supported, from various continents and regions across the world. Austria, Algeria, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Costa Rica, Cuba, Denmark, France, Greece, Indonesia, Latvia, Myanmar, Peru, United Kingdom are just a few examples of the hefty list the app sports. However, license plates from the United States are not supported.
To sum things up, SimpleLPR is a smart little solution for anyone interested in boosting their surveillance system by increasing their chances of identifying license plates that would otherwise be hard to read from camera snapshots or other devices. On top of that, the utility is intuitive and quick - the perfect combination for all types of users, technical or not.
