What is SEDiL?

SEDiL

SEDiL is a super user-friendly software platform that was developed as part of the ANR Marmota Project and the PASCAL pump-priming project. The goal? To learn about Stochastic Edit Distances from structured data. Sounds cool, right?

What Does SEDiL Do?

So, what’s SEDiL all about? Well, it helps share a bunch of learning algorithms focused on probabilistic edit distances between structured data like sequences and trees. If you're wondering what edit distances are, they play a key role in areas like bioinformatics, image processing, sound recognition, music identification, and even web mining!

Understanding Edit Distances

Edit distances measure how many changes (or edits) you need to make to turn one piece of structured data into another. It’s like figuring out how different two things are by counting the steps needed to change one into the other.

Tuning Parameters Automatically

In real-world situations, people usually adjust the parameters for edit distances by hand. But sometimes, especially when there isn’t enough knowledge about a topic, it can be super helpful to let SEDiL automatically figure those parameters out for you!

The Rise of XML

Another thing to note is that since XML is becoming the go-to standard for storing information, using trees can give you way more insight than just looking at single sequences alone.
