Description

Ruler and Compass

Ruler and Compass is a cool math software made for students in elementary and secondary schools. It helps you build geometric shapes, but instead of using paper, you do it right on your computer screen! You can create circles, lines, and segments with just your mouse. Plus, the computer finds all the intersections for you, which gives you better accuracy than regular drawing programs.

How to Use Ruler and Compass

There are two main ways to use this program. The first way is through "on-screen" constructions. This means you can draw shapes exactly like you'd do with a ruler and compass in real life—only it's all done digitally. The second method lets you write out your geometric constructions using a simple text-based language. It's really straightforward! Instead of drawing, you just type out what you want to create.

A Simple Language for Everyone

The program even comes with its own special editor to help you write these texts easily. When you're typing, correct commands light up in yellow while mistakes stay white—this helps catch any typos! For example, if you type 'circle,' it'll show up in yellow; but if you mistype it as 'ccircle,' you'll see it in white.

Step-by-Step Construction

You can trace your constructions step-by-step as if you're debugging code. This means instead of just looking at the text file, you get to watch a sequence of images showing how everything fits together. It’s great for showing off your work to friends or teachers!

Advanced Features

The software has some advanced features too! You can use procedures for more complex constructions that wouldn’t be possible on paper. Want to add some color? Go ahead! There’s also an 'Examples' directory where you can find fun projects to try.

Key Features of Ruler and Compass

  • This tool only allows constructions related to 2D planes that can be done with a ruler and compass.

  • It includes commands from the original module but adds more options for moving shapes around and defining vectors.

  • You can even construct 3D shapes like polyhedrons along with their colors!

  • Draw graphs by defining where they should appear and what colors they should be.

Requirements

  • You need at least 9 MB of free space on your hard drive.

  • Your Windows version should be 98 or later.

  • You must have the ability to download the installation program.
