Description

Rpmorphan

Rpmorphan is a cool open-source tool that helps you find orphaned RPM packages on your Linux system. If you're using a distribution like Fedora, openSUSE, OpenMandriva, Mageia, CentOS, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, this is the software for you! It's designed to work similarly to the Debian utility called deborphan but focuses on RPM packages.

Easy-to-Use Command-Line Tools

The great thing about Rpmorphan is that it comes packed with several command-line tools. For example, there's rpmusage, which shows you when an RPM package was last used. Then you've got rpmdep, which reveals all the dependencies of an installed RPM package. If you've got multiple versions of a program, rpmduplicates can help find those too! And if you're curious about installed packages that aren’t part of your current Linux distribution, rpmextra has got you covered.

Simplifying Package Management

This software makes it super simple to manage your packages. It first checks for all the packages without dependencies and lists them right in your terminal window. From there, you can easily remove any unwanted ones—either all at once or just pick and choose!

Diving Deeper with Options

If you're feeling adventurous, the rpmorphan command has a bunch of options you can explore. Just type “rpmorphan.pl --help” in your terminal to get a quick overview. You can choose different options like forcing a full algorithm or targeting specific packages.

Selecting Targets for Your Search

You have several target options available with Rpmorphan! You can search specifically for orphan packages or apply any chosen option to all packages—or just focus on certain types like documentation, Perl, Python, Ruby packages, and more!

User-Friendly Interface

This software is written entirely in Perl and can be run from the command line. There’s also a basic graphical user interface made with Tk if that’s more your style. Plus, it's compatible with any GNU/Linux operating systems using the RPM package manager.

If you're ready to clean up those orphaned RPMs and streamline your system's performance, check out Rpmorphan! You can download it here!
