Rocks Cluster is an open-source project that gives you a Linux distribution based on CentOS. It's designed to provide a complete cluster solution right from a CD, perfect for those using Red Hat Linux clusters.

Easy Setup for Everyone

This software was previously called the NPACI Rocks Cluster Tool Kit. It makes it super easy for anyone to set up a Rocks cluster quickly. If you're an experienced user, you can also build computational clusters, create visualization tiled-display walls, and set up grid endpoints.

Since it's based on the CentOS Linux distribution—which itself is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux—you get a powerful and dependable system. The installation process is unique and straightforward, making it accessible even if you're not a tech expert.

The Rocks Cluster comes packed with all the essential tools for managing clusters. You’ll find PBS, GM support, Maui, Ganglia, and more! With these tools at your fingertips, deploying, upgrading, scaling, and managing your clusters becomes hassle-free. Just keep in mind that it currently supports only 64-bit (x86_64) architecture.

Building Your Compute Cluster

If you want to build a compute cluster, you'll need to start with a bare-bones setup. Boot your front-end using the Kernel/Boot roll first. Then add in the base Roll along with OS Roll Disk 1 through OS Disk 3 ISO images. For full-featured clusters, don’t forget to include Area51, SGE, Ganglia, HPC rolls along with Python and Perl!

If you're aiming to build something custom with Rocks Cluster’s options available à la carte, just download the Base and Kernel/Boot rolls alongside all necessary operating system rolls.
