What is PyPE?

PyPE (Python Programmers' Editor)

So, let’s chat about PyPE. It's a cool editor made just for Python programming, built with the wxPython GUI toolkit. The great thing is that it gets updates whenever bugs get fixed or new features are added, so it's always improving!

Key Features of PyPE

Here are some awesome things about PyPE:

  • There's an option to exclude certain directories when you search.

  • You can easily delete lines or everything to the right.

  • Pasting in a rectangular format? Yep, it does that!

  • The backgrounds can have colors other than white for a more personalized look.

  • It does automatic spellchecking while you write your text and TeX/LaTeX documents.

  • If you're into LaTeX, it supports chapter delimiters too.

  • You can split the view to see two other files while editing one. Super handy!

  • The options have been reorganized to make them easier to find and use on smaller screens.

  • You can quickly run your Python code snippets directly in PyPE.

  • Run .py and .pyw files using a system Python, capture outputs, and interact through a command shell.

  • Auto rebuilding of browsable source trees is optional along with autocomplete and tooltips!

  • Want real-time syntax checking for Python? It’s got your back!

  • You can display comments created using the “Transforms -> Insert Comment” tool in Name, Line, and Filter tools.

User-Friendly Features

  • If you like Vim options when opening files, PyPE supports that too!

  • Easily switch between tabs and spaces in your documents with just a transform!

  • A command-line option lets you use PyPE portably on Windows distributions.

The find-in-files search tab even lets you ignore leading dot subdirectories like .svn. Plus, you'll love the “Round box” indicator for shell output! PyPE knows all Python interpreters from your Windows Registry or environment path so you can pick whichever one you want to use for the Python Shell.

If you're looking for XML encoding support along with standard Python encoding declaration support – it has that too! You can customize base font settings as well as sizes. And if that's not enough, all menu items can have key bindings adjusted however you want! It even supports international keyboard mappings and non-Latin characters fully!

You can open multiple documents via tabs with syntax highlighting for various languages including HTML/XML and C/C++. Dragging and dropping documents around is easy-peasy too!

Download PyPE now, save all documents with one click, manage workspaces efficiently – the list goes on! Plus, there’s also support for reverting saved versions if needed. So many features packed into one useful editor!

System Requirements

You’ll need either a machine running Python and wxPython or a Windows computer that supports binaries. Even older machines work; initial versions were developed on pretty basic hardware but should run fine on newer setups as well. Just keep in mind some functions might be slow due to known issues with certain text controls but overall it's super usable.
