PowerBASIC Utilities Toolkit is an awesome set of tools designed just for PowerBASIC programmers. It's got everything you need to make coding easier and more efficient. Below, I've listed what each utility does so you can see how they can help you out.

What is PowerBASIC for Windows?

PowerBASIC for Windows is a strong Win32-based compiler that lets developers write programs using the BASIC language we all know and love. Programs created with PowerBASIC are super small and efficient, meaning you won't need any extra runtime files, OCX controls, or DLLs to get things running smoothly.

Utilities Included in the Toolkit

• analyze.exe - This utility reports statistics for your program.


• codefmt.exe - Handy code formatter that organizes your PowerBASIC source code.


• codepk.exe - Packs all #INCLUDE files from your project into one single file.


• decgen.exe - Generates internal DECLARE statements for your program.


• dlddec.exe - Generates and sorts declares for EXPORTed DLL functions in PB/WIN or PB/DLL projects.


• dyncall.exe - Converts DLL declares into macros that can be called dynamically (LoadLibrary, STDCALL only).


• equated.exe - Equate (constants) editor that features a random value generator!


• expand.exe - Expands all lines in a source code file if they're split up.


• file2db.exe - Converts any file into PowerBASIC !db statements and copies it to the clipboard.

• findwnd.exe - A Spy++ style program that retrieves window information effortlessly!


• wdr2inc.exe - Helps convert C header files into PowerBASIC includes!

• linechk.exe - Checks source code lines to see if they're too long (over 255 characters).


• maklib.exe - Generates C-compatible .DEF and .LIB files for your DLL project!


• shorten.exe - Shortens lines in a source code file to whatever character width you want!


• subsys.exe - Lets you change the Win32 PE EXE sub-system type (like console or GUI).

Caution: Backup Your Work!

I highly recommend backing up any source code files you're using with PBUTILS. It's really rare, but problems can happen, and data might be lost. Keeping backups is a smart way to protect all your hard work! Regularly save backups—using WinRAR-based (.RAR) backups on CDs or DVDs.
