pkt is a super handy tool that uses plugin filters to handle almost any format out there, as long as there’s a plugin for it. It can do all sorts of things like encryption, decryption, compression, parity checking, decoding, conversion, repairing, and rebuilding—all with a universal file format that's XML-based.
By default, all output from pkt is in 7-bit ASCII. This means it's UTF encoded and works smoothly with XML parsers. If you need to get your hands dirty, pkt files can even be disassembled or repaired by hand if necessary!
pkt also supports 8-bit compressed XML packets for its archives. It uses one of several compression algorithms to keep things efficient. Generally speaking, pkt tries to pick the best algorithms available to make sure everything runs smoothly.
