What is Package Maker?

Package Maker

Package Maker is a handy tool that lets you connect to TFS and manage your changesets easily. Once you're all set up, you can write the 'changesets' and pick the right workspace from the list.

How Changesets Work

When we kick off a run, we start with the oldest changeset and move forward. This way, we can grab the newest files first. As each change pops up in the changeset, the app starts downloading those files.

Types of Files: Web vs DLL/EXE

You’ll come across two main types of files: Web files and DLL/EXE files. They behave a bit differently:

  • Web Files: When the app gets the file path from source control, it looks for 'web.config'. If it finds this file, it downloads directly from there.

  • DLL/EXE Files: If the app doesn’t find 'web.config', it assumes these are related to DLL or EXE. Then, it looks for 'proj' files in that path. Once found, it grabs the 'AssemblyName' of the output file.

The Importance of Getting Latest Files

Once we have the 'AssemblyName', the app pulls that file from your local workspace. It's super important to perform a 'get latest' to ensure you’re working with the most updated version.

Requirements:

  • .NET Framework

  • Visual Studio Team System
