oVirt is an open source, cross-platform and freely distributed virtualization software designed from the ground up to allow users to easily manage virtual machines, as well as storage and virtualized networks on their computers. It is currently based on some of the most powerful virtualization technologies, KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) and libvirt.
Originally developed by Red Hat Enterprise Linux, oVirt has been tailored for RHEL's main derivatives, including CentOS, Scientific Linux, and Fedora. It is recommended to use either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 9 or later for both the web-based administration panel and the user portal.
The software requires a computer with at least 4GB of RAM and 20GB free disk space, as well as a network storage (optional).
The oVirt software is also distributed as a standalone computer operating system, available for download as a bootable Live CD that lets anyone test it on any computer platform without installing any software. The Live CD is available for download for free from the project's homepage or via Softpedia.
