Description

OpenProj is a free, open source desktop alternative to Microsoft Project. If you are managing a group project we recommend Project-ON-Demand.

If you want a free replacement to commercial desktop software, then OpenProj is perfect. It's available on Linux, Unix, Mac or Windows, and it's free.

- zip or tar.gz archives:

Unzip the files to the folder of your choice.

Windows: Click on openproj.jar (or openproj.bat)

Mac: Click on openproj.jar

Linux: Open a terminal, go to the openproj_beta2 folder and run ./openproj.sh (assuming you downloaded the tar.gz archive)

If you get a permission denied message, do "chmod +x openproj.sh" This will let you run the shell script.
You can also run with the command "sh openproj.sh"

openproj.sh will report an error if it doesn't find a valid Java installation on your system (Sun implementation, version >=1.5).

On some distributions Sun JRE isn't installed by default, but it's often provided as an optional package.

Redhat doesn't provides a recent version of Sun JRE but you can download a RPM at http://www.java.com.

- RPM

OpenProj RPM requires the package: jre-sun >= 1.5.0.

In most cases your package manager will install the Java package for you if it's not present.

If Java is already installed, to avoid the sun-jre dependency, you can use the commands:

"rpm -i --nodeps openproj-0.9.3-1.noarch.rpm"
"openproj" (It will report an error if your Java installation isn't valid)
