Open Pics is a neat little tool that makes finding stock photos way easier. It pulls together images from lots of different sources into one place, so you don’t have to hop around searching everywhere. You can even search for what you need right in the app!
This open-source program is super handy, especially if you're on the lookout for free-to-use stock photos. It's still getting some updates, but it’s already pretty useful. Some of the big names it connects to include Unsplash, Pixabay, Free Range Stock, and Startup Stock Photos, just to name a few.
While there are tons of images at your fingertips, there are some things to keep in mind. Currently, you can't exclude certain sources or search just within specific sites. Unfortunately, there aren't any image filters either; you'll be searching based on image names only.
Downloading photos is pretty straightforward! Although it could use a bit more smoothing out. One downside is that you can't download multiple images at once—just one at a time.
The previews of the photos are small, but you can click through to see the original post in your browser for a better look. Plus, each photo comes with a link to its distribution license right from the source site.
A quick glance at the user interface shows that there's definitely room for improvement here. It looks basic and feels a bit clunky; customization options are non-existent right now—though you can hide the left panel if that helps.
If you're always hunting for stock photos for your projects, Open Pics is worth checking out! It brings together many online sources so you can search through them all at once and even create albums to keep everything organized.
