OffByOne is a web browser that runs entirely on its own. It blocks those annoying popups and aims to help you browse without leaving traces behind, which is pretty cool for your security!
But here’s the catch: it only works with HTML 3.2, which feels like ancient history now. Because of this, some modern websites might not load right or at all.
This browser hasn’t seen an update in a long while, and that’s why it can act up and be slow to load pages. If you open it, the look is reminiscent of a classic Windows 98 application—nothing like what you see in today’s popular browsers.
Also, OffByOne doesn't support Java or Flash. So if you're trying to view sites that use these technologies, good luck! You’ll probably just see a messed-up layout with missing elements.
Unlike other browsers, this one doesn’t have a standard address bar. You’ll need to pop open a window to enter the URL you want to visit. Don’t worry though; it still has navigation buttons like refresh, home, and stop. Plus, you can open multiple tabs!
The bookmark manager here is called 'Hotlist'. It lets you save links that catch your eye. You can also set up a 'Favorites' list if that works better for you.
When it comes to security, OffByOne shines a bit! It doesn’t store cache on your disk and clears everything out when you're done browsing. You can turn off cookies too and even use SSL for safer data transfers.
While OffByOne might’ve been a decent choice compared to Internet Explorer back in the day, it just doesn’t meet today’s standards anymore. With its outdated appearance and lack of support for newer web technologies, browsing speed suffers and many pages won’t load.
