Description

Nvidia OpenGL Display Driver

Nvidia OpenGL Display Driver is a special graphics driver made by Nvidia. It’s free to use and works with their video cards that support GLSL and OpenGL technologies. You’ll find this version works well with many GNU/Linux operating systems, whether you’re using 32-bit or 64-bit versions.

Supported Nvidia GPUs for OpenGL 3

When it comes to the officially supported Nvidia GPUs for OpenGL 3 technology, there are quite a few options! You can check out the GeForce 300 series, GeForce 200 series, GeForce 100 series, GeForce 9 series, GeForce 8 series, and even the ION series if you’re using desktop computers.

Supported Workstation GPUs

If you’re working with workstations, you’ve got the NVS series, Quadro FX series, Quadro NVS series, Quadro Plex series, and the Quadro G-Sync series all on your side. Plus, processors from C-Class and M-Class systems are also covered here!

Supported Nvidia GPUs for OpenGL 4

Now for those using the newer OpenGL 4 technology: you can rely on several options like the Quadro series and GeForce models including the 700 series, 600 series, 500 series, and even the older GeForce 400 series.

How to Install Nvidia OpenGL Display Driver

If you want to install the Nvidia OpenGL Display Driver, first make sure your Linux computer has one of these video cards. Head over to Softpedia’s Downloads section to grab the self-extracting installer. Once downloaded, save it in your Home directory.

Next up is exiting your graphical session. Jump into a console environment and run either “sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-xxx.xx.xx.run” or “sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-xxx.xx.xx.run” (just swap xxx.xx.xx with your version number). Don’t forget to do this as root (with sudo)!

Support for Other Operating Systems

The cool thing is that this driver doesn’t just stop at Linux; it also supports FreeBSD and Solaris operating systems! If you're looking for drivers specifically for those OSs too, be sure to check out Softpedia's Linux section for both Nvidia OpenGL Display Driver for FreeBSD and Nvidia OpenGL Display Driver for Solaris.
