News Anchor is a cool Mac OS X app that reads news feed items out loud. It's like having your own news show! You can mix and match different feeds to create personalized news channels that are voiced by fun robot anchors.
The app comes with some ready-made news sources and channels, which you can easily see on a user-friendly interface. You can check out default channels like Business and Finance, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Showbiz, Technology, or World News. But if you want something special, you can create your own channel too!
To start a new channel, just enter at least one news feed from your favorite site. There's a handy panel on the right side of the main window where you manage your feeds. All you need to do is type in the feed's name, description, feed address, and if needed, a User ID and password.
You can link each feed to one of your channels using either the news feed editor or the channel editor. A neat feature here is that you can generate as many episodes as you want! You also set how many episodes will be shown at once—pretty cool!
Tuning into your personalized news channel is super easy! Just click on one from the home screen, and an animated male or female anchor will read out articles for you. Just a heads up—the robot voices aren't exactly soothing, and the images shown on-screen come from the articles and aren't great either.
You've got full control over playback with simple sliders for progress and volume. Plus, there are buttons for previous article/play/pause/next/stop functions. If something catches your eye in an article, there's also a button to open it in your default browser since the app doesn't display them itself.
In short, News Anchor is an awesome tool for anyone who wants their news delivered audibly in a fun way! Even though the robot voices might not be perfect quality-wise, you'll love having total control over what you hear. This app can be especially helpful for users with vision impairments or anyone who prefers listening to reading articles!
