NearDrop is an awesome tool that makes it easier for you to transfer files between your Android phone and your Mac. If you've got an iPhone or iPad, you know how smooth things can be with AirDrop. But what if you're using an Android? That's where NearDrop comes in!
This open-source app takes advantage of Google's Nearby Share, which works kind of like AirDrop but is designed for Android devices, ChromeOS, and Windows. With NearDrop, you can quickly share files between your Android and Mac without a hassle.
Now, let’s talk about some of the limitations. First off, while your Mac can receive files from your Android device, it can't send anything back. Bummer! It would be great if this feature gets added in the future, but for now, we’re stuck with this one-way street.
Another thing to note is that NearDrop only works over Wi-Fi. So make sure both your Android device and Mac are connected to the same network when you want to transfer files. This means no sharing on-the-go unless you’ve got a solid Wi-Fi connection!
You should also know that NearDrop will show up on all devices connected to your network at all times. If you wanted more privacy by limiting visibility to certain people, that would require extra steps involving Google’s servers.
Despite these limitations, NearDrop can still be super handy! It lets you send files from your Android phone to your Mac quickly over a local network—much easier than trying other complicated methods.
