NameIt is a handy app that can save you from the headache of coming up with passwords or names when you're in a rush. Sometimes, brainstorming ideas can be pretty annoying, right? But don't worry! There are plenty of apps like NameIt that come with built-in generators and let you create your own for whatever you need.
Once you've got NameIt installed, it's super easy to use! Just run the app, and you're on your way to getting a new password or even a catchy name for a song. The main window is compact and user-friendly. You'll see options for different generators like music names and passwords right there. Just hit a button, and voilà! A new item pops up and gets copied directly to your clipboard.
Now, while NameIt doesn't let you tweak every little detail of the password (like length or character type), you can still get creative by making your own generators. To do this, just expand the main window to find management options. You can set rules for your generator and add it to your list. And guess what? There's no limit on how many generators you can create! They're all easily selectable from a drop-down menu.
Okay, fair warning: figuring out how to set up a new generator might take some time at first. But don't sweat it—there are only three fields to fill in! First, give it a name; second, there's an optional field for fixed characters that always show up; and last but not least is where the magic happens—the random value component!
This component uses three types of variables: “c” stands for lowercase letters, “C” is for uppercase letters, and “n” represents numbers. The more variables you choose, the longer your output will be!
If you're looking for speed in using NameIt, you'll love this feature: You can create desktop shortcuts for any generator! When you run one of these shortcuts, it won't prompt anything; it'll just send the generated string straight to your clipboard based on the rules you've set up. For even quicker access, assign a hotkey from the Properties panel.
In summary, while NameIt might feel a bit clunky at first—especially since it starts with only a few preset generators—it gets easier once you get used to it. After some practice, you'll be able to create multiple custom generators along with handy desktop shortcuts so that launching the app every time won't be necessary.
