Mirrorlinks
Mirrorlinks is a handy little script that helps you save space by mirroring the contents of one directory into another using symbolic links. This way, you don't have to waste disk space making copies!
How Does It Work?
Let's break it down with an example:
Imagine you have three directories: Music, Movies, and Shared. You want to put everything from your Music and Movies folders into Shared, but for some reason, you don't want to just create links in Shared pointing back to Music and Movies.
Simplifying Your Directories
No worries! With Mirrorlinks, it's super easy:
You just run the commands:
mirrorlinks Music Shared
mirrorlinks Movies SharedThis makes it so that the Shared directory now has all the content from both Music and Movies. To put it simply, Shared will have a combined view of both directories with symbolic links leading back to the original files.
Your Files Are Still Safe!
If you had a folder named ATB inside Music, now in Shared, there would be a folder called ATB too! But instead of copying those files, it will only link to them. So there's no extra storage being used.
