Maukies is a fun little app made for the Yahoo! Widget Engine that brings a cute cat animation right to your desktop. It’s super lightweight and perfect for anyone who wants to add a touch of whimsy to their workspace. Don’t worry if you’re not a tech whiz; this app is really easy to install and set up!

Easy Setup and Fun Interface

The interface is simple and involves a small frame that you can drag around your screen using your mouse. The cat in the animation is black and white, with bright green eyes and a striking red collar. You can place this adorable kitty wherever you like on your desktop!

Animation Performance

Now, while Maukies is charming, the animation itself isn’t exactly smooth sailing. It seems like it hasn’t been updated in quite some time, which might be why it stutters a bit during play.

Widget Preferences

If you want to tweak things a bit, just open the context menu to access the Widget Preferences. Here, you can adjust how the frame behaves—whether it stays on top of other windows or not, or if it should ignore mouse events so it doesn’t get moved around accidentally.

Customization Options

You’ve also got options for opacity! You can make that cute cat frame more or less see-through, ranging anywhere from 20% all the way up to 100%. This means you can customize how much of your desktop shows through while still enjoying that playful animation.

Light on Resources

The best part? Maukies doesn’t hog your computer's resources at all. It runs smoothly without using much CPU or memory. During our tests, we didn’t run into any error messages or crashes—it was pretty stable overall! Even though Maukies has limited features, it's definitely a fun addition for those who enjoy quirky desktop companions.
