Mapsoft SecuritySetter

Mapsoft SecuritySetter is a handy tool that really steps up your PDF security game. It has awesome features built right in to control access to your PDF documents. Normally, you'd have to set these features for each file by clicking through the File > Save As menu. But with Mapsoft SecuritySetter, you can set everything up once and then apply those settings to lots of files at once—especially if you team it up with Mapsoft's Automator tool. Just a heads-up though: when you're setting security options for multiple files, they all need to have the same or compatible settings if you're opening them together.

Set Your Passwords Easily

Using the SecuritySetter, you can create two types of passwords to keep your PDF files safe:

• Open Document Password: This is like a key! Users must enter this password (often called the user password) before they can even open the document.


• Change Security Options Password: This one is super important! Users need this password (sometimes called the master or owner password) if they want to change any existing security settings. It’s best practice to set this password because without it, anyone who opens the file could remove any restrictions you've put in place.

You can change or delete passwords whenever you need to. Just remember, if you forget a password, there's no way to recover it from the document.

Changing Document Security

When you're adjusting a document's security settings, it's key to know that while SecuritySetter makes those changes for you, other tools in the Master Toolbox and many functions in Acrobat require a “Save As” operation first. If you're using Acrobat Version 5, make sure to do a “Save As” so that your changes show up correctly. For Acrobat 6 users, doing either a “Save” or a “Save As” is also recommended before moving on with other tasks.
