Description

Password managers are all but necessary in today’s day and age, where still far too many accounts fall prey to password brute-forcing attacks. As a mainstream solution, Bitwarden gets firm recommendations from recent and longtime users alike, and it’s not difficult to see why.

If you use Bitwarden, there’s barely a reason, if any, to move away from it. However, if you’re not satisfied with the desktop client, then maybe it’s time for an alternative. Not a password manager, but alternative Bitwarden client: and that’s precisely what Keyguard is. It features a nice, modern UI that is fast to respond to your inputs, and also bundles some additional features.

It doesn’t take long before you settle into using the app as a daily driver. Authenticate with your Bitwarden account, and it’ll automatically retrieve your data. Note that your vault will need to be unlocked with the password you set during the initial setup process, so make sure not to forget it.

After that, you can use the client and access your Bitwarden vault as per usual. Entries are nicely displayed in the Vault menu, where you’re also able to edit existing items or add new ones as you see fit. Logins, card and identity details, as well as secure notes can be added, and they’ll synchronize with your account without delay.

The program integrates Bitwarden’s Send function, whereby you can send a secure note that can be accessed a set number of times and only with a password, which can optionally expire after a given time frame. A URL will be generated leading to the password-protected note.

Watchtower can let you know if any of your logins have been compromised by a data breach, or if you’ve been reusing a password one too many times, among other things.

Interestingly, the included generator is much more than a regular password generator, as it can also generate usernames, as well as various types of email names.

Keyguard is very easy to recommend if you use Bitwarden, but aren’t too happy with its desktop app. The implementation here is intuitive and modern, making the app very straightforward to use, while still featuring all the functionality you can expect from Bitwarden.
