Description

Ever wanted to have easy access to keyrings, passwords, tokens, or other associated so-called secret on your Linux machine? If the answer is yes, then an app such as Key Rack can prove of great worth.

What exactly is Key Rack? In short, it's a free and open-source application that allows you to view, create, and edit secrets directly from the comfort of your GNOME desktop.

At face value, Key Rack is not an impressively complex app. In fact, it's quite simple. However, what makes Key Rack particularly special (for me at least) is that it supports both types of "secrets."

This includes the typical system-wide keyrings (found on most modern Linux desktops), as well as Flatpak secrets.

On many modern Linux desktops, the so-called secrets (passwords, tokens, and other similar attributes) are managed by a daemon generically called gnome-keyring-daemon.

However, accessing Flatpak secrets is not something that most apps can do. One good example of an app capable of doing this is Secrets. I find Key Rack functionality to be very similar to that of the aforementioned app. They both have super simple GUIs, but Secrets offers a bit more in terms of features.

I'm fairly sure that most people who rely on Flatpak a lot know that Flatpak apps run in isolated sandboxes (mostly for security reasons). This isolation prevents Flatpak apps from affecting/impacting system apps on the host system (and vice-versa).

This is why Key Rack is such a great little app. It provides users with a stylish GTK GUI that, in turn, provides quick access to every single system secret.

There's not much else to talk about, really. Key Rack is a efficient little app that allows users to quickly copy secrets to clipboard, or edit secrets that need to be changed.
