Description

KEuroCalc is an open source, small, fast, easy-to-use and free graphical software projecct implemented in C++/Qt, designed especially for the KDE desktop environment and designed to act as a universal currency calculator and converter tool for your GNU/Linux operating system.

Converting between currencies is fairly straightforward, using either a variable conversion rate or a fixed one. The software uses an existing Internet connection to download the latest variable rates from its website.

Its graphical user interface (GUI) is intuitive and easy-to-use, providing users with a simple design where all the tools you need to convert monetary amounts without too much hassle. To get started, you must choose the currency to convert to and use the calculator to calculate currencies.

Being written in Qt, the application has been designed specifically for the KDE Plasma graphical desktop environment. However, it can also be used under any other open source desktop environment/window manager if the Qt library is present.

Also part of the KEuroCalc project, we’re introducing you to the curconvd daemon, a currency conversion service that runs in the background over over D-Bus and lets applications that need to convert currencies to communicate with the D-Bus API (Application Programming Interface).

Taking a look under the hood of the KEuroCalc program, we can notice that while it has been written entirely in the C++ programming language, it uses the cross-platform Qt GUI toolkit for its graphical user interface.

The application is currently supported on any Linux kernel-based operating system, but it can be easily ported to any UNIX-like OS where the Qt framework is supported, such as BSD, Windows or Mac OS X. Both 64-bit and 32-bit CPU architectures are supported at this time.
