Oracle releases Java updates periodically, both for their JRE and JDK, addressing functionality and security issues alike.
As with any other application, it is highly recommended to keep Java updated to the latest version, as it contains not just the latest features
and improvements, but also the most recent vulnerability fixes.
But even if you do so, it might just happen that older versions of Java remain on your computer, which can pose a serious security risk.
Making sure that older Java editions are removed from the system allows Java-based applications to run under the latest security improvements.
There are two ways to remove older Java versions: manually from the Control Panel or using the Java Uninstall Tool.
Aside from the standard uninstaller in the Control Panel of Windows, the Java Uninstall Tool is the way to go if you need to safely
remove older Java editions from your computer. And you should do so, as they might have vulnerabilities that can be easily exploited.
