What is IPTarget?

IPTarget is a handy tool for anyone who runs their own server on a broadband connection and doesn’t have a static IP address. If you want your domain names to always point to your current dynamic IP, this software can really help.

Dynamic IP DNS Solutions

Many dynamic IP DNS solutions rely on an external server to find out your public IP address. While that works well, sometimes you can grab the public IP straight from the web interface of one of your network devices.

Your Home Network Setup

Take my home setup as an example: I've got a DSL modem, a VOIP box, and a router. Before I switched my DSL modem to pass-through mode, it was getting the public IP. Now, my VOIP box does that instead. You can easily check the public IP by looking at the “Status” pages in any of these devices' web interfaces.

How IPTarget Works

IPTarget makes periodic HTTP requests to your network device to check the current IP address. If it changes, it automatically updates all DNS records for any domains you're managing with ZoneEdit.

• A simple installation program that's small and easy to uninstall later if needed. You’ll find a shortcut in your Start menu's Programs folder.


• All options are easy to access through a multi-tabbed dialog box.


• The software uses regular expressions to parse the IP address. Make sure you include the special token '%IP%' where the actual IP should go!


• You can get email alerts for errors or when your IP changes. You can also receive nightly updates with your current IP!


• More than one domain in ZoneEdit can be updated at once!


• Every defined IP under each domain gets updated automatically.


• You also have the option to manually trigger an IP query or update ZoneEdit whenever you want!
