The main window of Infocentre is pretty straightforward. Before diving into searches, you'll need to set up some collections. You don’t have to worry about specific file types; just pick the folders you want indexed for easy searching later!

How Indexing Works

Once you've added some collections, selecting one will kick off the indexing process. However, keep in mind that the algorithm isn’t perfect—there are limits on characters in paths and filenames. So if you're scanning a complicated drive or folder, it might take a bit longer than expected.

Automatic or Manual Indexing?

You can choose whether you want indexing to happen automatically or if you'd rather trigger it manually when needed. When you're ready to search, just type your query into the dedicated field. There aren’t many parameters available, but if you know a specific file extension, type that in too! The results show up instantly, and you can open files directly from the main window.

Inefficiencies with Complex Searches

While Infocentre does a decent job with smaller directories and fewer files, it struggles a bit with more complex searches and indexing tasks. Indexing things like thumb drives or entire partitions could take longer than expected and sometimes runs into various scanning issues along the way.
