Description

IdentProtocol

IdentProtocol is a handy app that works like a Windows service. It listens for ident requests and sends back the right info when it gets one. You’ll notice it doesn’t have a fancy user interface; instead, it quietly runs in the background. If you want to tweak its settings, you just need to edit an INI file.

How Does IdentProtocol Work?

When IdentProtocol receives an ident request, it responds with details about the current user account. If you want, it can also include the computer name in its reply. Pretty neat, right? And if you've got more than one instance of this service running, they play nice together by relaying requests correctly.

Customizing Your Service

You can set up IdentProtocol to run on its own or keep it inactive until a specific program that you choose is running. This gives you some flexibility in how you manage your services.

Getting Started with Installation

Once you've installed IdentProtocol, you'll find a couple of EXE files and an INI configuration file waiting for you in the root folder. These files let you run the service, change settings, and reload everything if you've made changes.

Tweaking Settings with INI File

The INI configuration file is where the magic happens! You can change several entries to customize how IdentProtocol behaves. For example, you can decide how quickly connections will be released or what info should be included in responses. Plus, you can add the name of a process that needs monitoring.

Why Choose IdentProtocol?

If you're looking for a simple way to handle ident requests without all the bells and whistles of a GUI, then IdentProtocol might just be what you need!
